The Promobilia Foundation was founded in 1965 at the initiative of Dr. Per Uddén to facilitate the development of a powered wheelchair, subsequently branded as Permobil. The board instituted the Dr. Per Uddén Scholarship to honor the foundation's founder and driving force. This initiative was undertaken in 1995, on the occasion of Dr. Per Uddén's seventieth birthday, when the scholarship was also awarded for the first time.
